It easily makes our list of the best audio editing software opens in new tab , and it also features among the best beat making software opens in new tab too. Apple Logic Pro is a powerful audio editor and, as such, comes with a whole host of features. The newer features include Live Loops, which places columns of "cells" on the screen for composing and arranging music, in real time.

This allows for live editing where samples, loops or recorded audio can be dragged into the grid to trigger the cells in different combinations in a non-linear fashion. These can then be arranged into "scenes" which can be queued up as needed. This represents a very freeing, creative and fast way to work with audio in the moment, live. Crucially, you can still transition to the existing Tracks view afterwards with all the newly composed regions remaining as you left them.

Failing all that, you can use 17 pre-loaded scenes, aka templates, into which you can drop what you need to get creating quickly. The new Remix FX plugin in a powerful feature that comes with the Yes, it's the same one that first appeared in GarageBand and is still lots of fun. This is designed for electronic music producers and allows for transitions, gates, stutter edits, virtual record scratching and more via a mouse or Logic Remote on iPad and iPhone.

This can be used on individual tracks or strapped across the mix bus and gives lag-free flare-style effects following the cursor. The Step Sequencer is another huge feature which allows you to gray out the current Step Editor if you activate it. This gives you an FL Studio style interface for the drums with 15 rhythm and melody options that makes it perfect for building beats. It even includes some simulated amps and pedals, though I prefer my own real tube amps.

I have purchased two audio plugins — a vocal rider and a de-esser, both from waves. Logic includes several virtual drummers. They have their own different kits and their own different styles of playing. You can swap out the different kits — put Logan, the old school rock drummer, on a jazz kit! Great fun. Best of all, at the end of the day, you can still use MIDI to tweak the drum performances. Even the free limited version is a royal pain in the ass to get working.

The documentation is not very good. At all. The Mac has always been easy to use, as are most applications for it, but if you need help, turn to YouTube. To be fair, this also describes every other DAW out there. Apple should find the best YouTube content creator out there for Logic and just hire them to make videos. GarageBand is basically Logic Lite, and is good enough to handle what most people need. I used GarageBand on some of the tracks on my first album. You can open GarageBand projects in Logic, another brilliant move.

It really is that good. You may want to compare it with the stock Logic Pro X plugin. Once again, they are designed with real-world counterparts in mind. If you want to get a very smooth compression effect, while still coloring the sound with warmth and richness, Vintage Opto is the way to go.

Try Vintage Opto when you want to let mid and low frequencies sing through, while higher frequencies are more finely attenuated. Fun Fact: Optical compressors literally react to a light flashing in response to the audio signal coming in. They have a bit of a sluggish response once all the conversions are factored in, resulting in their distinctly smooth vintage tone.

The bad news is that a compressor will almost never fix a weak sound. Compression is intended to either bring out the best in your sounds, eliminate inconsistencies, or provide a tool for experimentation. The good news is that Logic Pro X comes with a very solid and convincing range of compressors with a wide variety of uses. As always, have a play around, trust your ears, and enjoy your music making!

This is so amazing!.. I wish I could write these notes down on each compressors so I can pick the right one for each use case! Your email address will not be published.
